The project addresses a critical issue in contemporary society: the declining mental health of young people, exacerbated by the stresses of modern living and the pervasive influence of technology. The COVID-19 pandemic has intensified these challenges, resulting in increased isolation, family tensions, and a significant impact on the mental wellbeing of youth across Europe.
Knitting, as a tool for enhancing mental health, aligns with project’s goals by promoting mindfulness, reducing stress, and fostering a sense of community and belonging. It can be integrated into modern therapeutic practices to support youth mental health, encouraging the sharing of skills across generations and cultures. The NEEDLES project will use knitting to achieve specific objectives related to youth mental health, including methodologies for engagement, expected outcomes, and potential impacts on participants and the wider community.
